Puerto Limon - The Caribbean Coast's biggest city Limon is not your typical Central American city. Heavily influenced by West Indian culture this hard working port city is filled with reggae tunes, dreadlocks and rasta lifestyle.
Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502, spanish settlers soon decided Costa Rica's eastern coast was simply too wild and nearly impassable.
Puerto Limon doesn't have beaches known for swimming or surfing. If you surf try Isla Uvita which is about 900 meters offshore and Playa Bonita which is good for bathing is 4km north of town.
Fun Facts: Puerto Limon was discovered by Christopher Columbus and got its name from an old Lemon tree.
